IN MEMORIAM

Edna Doyle was born Edna Margaret Serjeant on February 15, 1915 in Melbourne Australia.

She was the oldest of three children of herself and two brothers Harold and William. It became her lot to be the mother of William (or Bill as he was called) as he was 10 years younger than her.

Edna received only an 8th grade education and from the age of 15 spent the next 46 years working to support herself and her family, which included a son born to her in 1941. These working years were made up of 22 years in a garment factory, followed by jobs such as door to door saleswoman, dry-cleaning, housekeeping, and as a plant nursery-woman. She would also find herself baby-sitting her youngest brother’s first son Bruce for many years while his mother worked.

Edna became a Seventh-Day Adventist in 1951, a Davidian in 1956, and later joined the Branch Davidians, under Benjamin Roden, in 1964. In 1976 she moved to the Unites States to join her son at Mt. Carmel, in Waco, and assist him in the raising of his two daughters, Karen and Shari. A year later she accepted the message presented by Lois Roden about the femininity of the Holy Spirit. By 1983 she had also accepted the teachings of Vernon Howell, later to be known as David Koresh, and continued to hold to that faith until her death.

Over the years she would help take care of dozens of the Mt. Carmel children, and almost all considered her own, until the fire in 1993, in which many of them died.

On June 25, somewhere between 10:30 a.m. and noon she suffered a severe stroke and was hospitalized. Her right side was paralyzed and she was unable to speak as she fought a losing battle to continue living to serve others. On the Seventh day the Lord chose to give her rest. She passed from this life July 1 at 6:02 a.m. at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.

She is survived by her son, Clive Doyle, her granddaughter Karen Graham, her brother (in Australia) William Serjeant and his 5 children: 3 nephews: Bruce, Phillip, and Christopher, and 2 nieces: Nicole & Melissa as well as hundreds of friends who came to love her during her 86 years. She will be missed by all.
